Atalanta BC are pleased to announce the signing of Jonathan Rowe from Bologna FC on an initial loan deal with an option to buy and a conditional obligation to make the move permanent should certain conditions be met.

A key figure in England’s triumph at the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, Jonathan was born in London to Jamaican parents on 30 April 2003. After taking his first steps in football with AFC Wembley, the local club in the area where he grew up, he went on to develop his talent in Norwich City’s Academy, progressing rapidly through the ranks before making his first-team debut at just 17 years of age in an EFL Trophy fixture.

The 2021/22 season brought his first Premier League appearances – 13 in total – with his debut coming at the end of December away to Crystal Palace. Five goals in his first five appearances in all competitions saw him immediately establish himself as a key player in the 2023/24 campaign, which he finished with 12 goals in the English Championship. It was an important season, also highlighted by the EFL Young Player of the Month award for August 2023, which earned him a move to Olympique de Marseille.

It took him just four games in France to score his first Ligue 1 goal, and it was one to remember: in the 95th minute, he netted the winner in OM’s 3-2 away victory over Olympique Lyonnais. He ended the season with 31 appearances in all competitions, three goals and four assists.

At the age of 22, Rowe made the move to Italy with Bologna, making his Serie A debut away to AC Milan on 14 September 2025. In his first season in Italy, he scored three league goals, including a spectacular scissor-kick winner in stoppage time away to Napoli, which was named Lega Serie A’s Goal of the Month for May. He also scored the decisive goal against Parma in the Coppa Italia and gained valuable UEFA Europa League experience, contributing four goals and two assists as Bologna reached the quarter-finals. Among those goals was one in the 4-3 victory at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome in the second leg of the round of 16.

Jonathan also played a starring role for England U21s as they lifted the 2025 European Championship, making a crucial contribution to their title triumph. After scoring in the opening game of the tournament against Czechia, he struck again in the final, heading home the decisive goal in extra time to seal a 3-2 victory over Germany.
