Werder Bremen coach Ole Werner is backing Füllkrug to rediscover his best form. Ahead of Saturday's match against RB Leipzig, he stated, "We know his potential and his quality. When that returns, he will score." Werner remained non-committal on whether Füllkrug will feature in the first home game of the season.

Werner said, "If I feel it's better to give him a rest, I will do so. Especially when the other options are performing well." He added, "My priority is to help him regain his form through regular playing time."

In the opening league match, a 4-1 defeat to Freiburg, Füllkrug started and was substituted in the 60th minute. The Bremen fan favourite developed into a German international and Bundesliga top scorer at the Weserstadion, but after two years with West Ham United and AC Milan, he is still short on playing time.
