The official Liverpool website published an interview with Kerkez, who discussed Liverpool's preparations for this week. The Reds are striving for their first win and first clean sheet of the season, and they will visit newly promoted Ipswich Town on Friday evening.

Liverpool's third Premier League match of the 2026-27 season will be away against Ipswich Town. Although Kerkez and his teammates haven't lost in the first two rounds, two points and four goals conceded are below their expectations.

"Obviously, only two points is not ideal," said the left-back. "But if you put the negatives aside, we haven't lost, so it's okay, but we need to start winning now."

"For us, especially the defenders, we want clean sheets, the goal is to not let the opponent score."

"So, this week we've been training on these issues to correct these areas, and I think things will get better."

"We had meetings, and the defenders always have video analysis. So, we want to improve significantly in this regard, and with the strength we have, we can do it."

In both matches against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, Liverpool fell behind twice but ultimately rallied to draw.

"We will fight until the end, that's our characteristic and the spirit of this club," Kerkez continued. "But obviously, in both games, we had to come back from behind, which is not ideal."

"So, as I said, we need to do better in transitions, defensive recovery, and who should stay and who should push forward."

"We certainly don't always want to concede first and then chase the game; we want to start winning from the beginning of the match."

Meanwhile, Ipswich has had one win and one loss since returning to the Premier League, beating Sunderland in the first round but losing 2-5 to Manchester United away last Sunday. New manager Gary O'Neil signed 14 players during the summer transfer window.

Speaking about the match at Portman Road, Kerkez said: "I think we will obviously analyze everything, so we will know how each player plays and also the tactical arrangements. For every match, we will be very well prepared."

Liverpool welcomed Barcola after their last appearance; the French attacker joined from Paris Saint-Germain on Monday and has already made a strong impression on the team.

"He's a great player, and everyone obviously knows him," Kerkez concluded. "He's only been in two or three training sessions, and you can see his quality and potential, and he still has a lot of room for improvement. He will be a very good player."

"He's very fast and good at dribbling, and I think he will help us a lot."
