After being relegated from the Premier League last season, Burnley's start to this Championship campaign has been disastrous. In their first five matches, they drew 2-2 with West Ham United at home, lost 1-3 away to West Brom, lost 1-4 away to Norwich, drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough at home, and lost 1-2 at home to Bristol City, leaving them bottom with 2 draws and 3 losses.

Since their 3-2 away victory against Crystal Palace in the 26th round of last season's Premier League, Burnley has gone 17 league matches without a win.

Notably, Luton Town suffered consecutive relegations in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons, dropping from the Premier League to League One. Leicester City experienced the same fate in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons. Now Burnley faces the real risk of following the same path with back-to-back relegations.
