According to L'Équipe, Pavard, who had a disappointing loan spell at Olympique Marseille last season, unexpectedly remained at Internazionale this summer and fought hard for opportunities.

Last season, many players struggled during their time at Olympique Marseille, but some recovered more quickly than others. Among them is 30-year-old Pavard, whose buy-option was not activated after his loan from Internazionale to Olympique Marseille due to his underperformance. Despite receiving substantial offers from clubs including Benfica, Galatasaray, Como, and Porto late in the transfer window, the French international (55 appearances, 5 goals) made little effort to seek a new club and immediately expressed his desire to stay.
Pavard's previous spell at Internazionale between 2023 and 2025 saw him win two trophies (1 Serie A title, 1 Supercoppa Italiana) and reach a Champions League final (a 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain on May 31, 2025), but it ended on a difficult note. Due to an ankle injury, he had to leave the United States and missed subsequent Club World Cup matches starting in June 2025 – which was also the first major tournament for Internazionale under manager Chivu.
