For the second week running, Inter came from two goals down in Serie A to win, thrashing Udinese 5-3 at San Siro.

Match Report

Inter conceded twice in the first 16 minutes, but Carlos Agosto, Nicolo Barella, Marcus Thuram, Francesco Pio Esposito and Ange-Yoan Bonny were all on target for Cristian Chivu's side.

Udinese came flying out of the blocks, stunning the home crowd in the ninth minute as Unai Gomez recycled a cleared corner by picking out James Abankwah, whose header looped over the wrong-footed Josep Martinez.

Maduka Okoye then made a superb double save to protect Udinese’s lead five minutes later, first keeping out Thuram's header before popping back up to smother the rebound.

And Jurgen Ekkelenkamp made the most of the reprieve in the 16th minute, flicking on Keinan Davis' low centre, though Martinez will feel he should have done better after deflecting it into his own net.

Inter shook off their slow start to pull one back 10 minutes later, with Augusto arrowing a stunning long-range strike into the bottom-right corner.

And Barella wasted little time getting the hosts back on level terms, recovering from a slip inside the box to take the ball around his marker and fire it past Okoye.

Inter kept up the pressure in the second half and finally took the lead for the first time in the 57th minute. Andy Diouf raced down the right before pulling it back from the byline, and Thuram turned it in first time.

Pio Esposito doubled Inter's advantage in the 67th minute, carving out a pocket of space in the Udinese box to coolly slot past Okoye, and Bonny then added some late gloss, looping in the rebound of his own saved shot.

Udinese gave the travelling fans one last moment to cheer as Idrissa Gueye latched onto Vakoun Bayo's loose touch and fired past Martinez after a pacy counter.

Inter the comeback kings

Last weekend, Inter were spurred into action after going 2-0 down against Napoli early in the second half, snatching a dramatic 3-2 victory in stoppage time through Lautaro Martinez.

And, coming off the back of a Champions League loss to Real Madrid, they were caught cold this time out.

Inter conceded two goals in the first 16 minutes of a Serie A match for the first time since October 2020, when Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a brace for AC Milan.

Unlike the Napoli game, Chivu's side had more time to turn the scoreline around, and they did it in some style, netting five goals in the top flight for the first time since April (a 5-2 win over Roma).

In fact, it is the fourth time in 2026 they have netted 5+ goals; in the top five European leagues, only Bayern Munich (six) have done so on more occasions this year (Barcelona have also done so in four matches).

They were ultimately deserving of their victory, though, firing off 27 shots worth 3.11 expected goals (xG), with 12 of those on target.

Udinese proved a stumbling block at the start of last season, but this time around, Inter were unable to avoid a similar fate, maintaining their 100% record.

They are second in the Serie A table behind Roma, who they face next weekend, on goal difference.
