Premier League legend Alan Shearer criticized Bruno Fernandes' "pathetic" diving in the Manchester derby on "The Rest Is Football" podcast, stating that both players deserved red cards.

At Old Trafford on Sunday, Foden retaliated against Fernandes midway through the first half, resulting in Manchester City playing with 10 men for most of the match. However, Foden appeared to have been kicked by his opponent first while on the ground.
Referee Michael Oliver showed Foden a red card but did not penalize Bruno Fernandes. Shearer believes that if both players reacted the same way, either both should have been sent off or neither should have received a red card.
Shearer said: "I thought the way Bruno Fernandes went down was pathetic. He helped get Foden sent off, and yes, Foden did kick him, but Bruno Fernandes also kicked Foden."
Shearer added: "Foden's kick was irrational, but Bruno Fernandes did the same thing. If Michael Oliver thought Foden's action warranted a red card, then without a doubt, both of them should have received red cards."
