According to Mundo Deportivo, this summer Barcelona identified Racing Santander's 19-year-old defender Jorge Salinas as a transfer target for the left-back position. However, due to a significant disagreement between the two clubs over the player's valuation, the deal ultimately fell through. This failed transfer indirectly created an opportunity for young Barcelona academy player Javi Espart, who eventually secured a starting position.

Salinas performed exceptionally well for Racing Santander last season, becoming one of the team's most promising young players. Barcelona, looking to strengthen their left-back position, set their sights on the young defender and initiated contact with Racing Santander, with agent Jorge Mendes also involved.

However, the disparity in transfer fee demands ultimately led to the breakdown of negotiations. Barcelona was only willing to pay between 5 and 6 million euros, while Racing Santander insisted on the 16 million euro release clause in Salinas' contract.

After failing to sign Salinas, Hans Flick resolved the left-back issue through alternative means. Barcelona signed Cancelo as the transfer window neared its close and also had Balde in the squad, although the latter was allowed to seek a new club and has not featured this season. Additionally, Gerard Martín has been converted to centre-back.

In this situation, Flick turned to academy player Javi Espart, who became a solution for the German coach and ultimately secured a starting position.

Salinas can play as both a left centre-back and left-back. This season, he has started all five league matches for Racing Santander against Villarreal, Getafe, Elche, Rayo Vallecano, and Alavés, playing all 450 minutes.

In the upcoming match against Barcelona, Salinas will face a significant challenge: limiting Lamine Yamal. The latter has been in excellent form recently, and the two are expected to clash on the wing.
