On August 5th, Juventus defeated Chelsea 1-0 in a friendly match held in Hong Kong. After the match, Spalletti explained his decision to use Jonathan David for only 30 minutes.

In the friendly against Chelsea, Spalletti introduced Jonathan David at halftime but substituted him off in the 75th minute. The decision puzzled many Juventus fans, who questioned whether the Canadian forward had suffered an injury or if his brief performance had disappointed Spalletti. However, Spalletti clarified the matter after the match, putting speculation to rest.

Spalletti said: "There's no special reason behind it—we simply planned for him to play that amount of time. I prefer to bring him on when the game is most intense rather than waiting until the final stages. If we'd kept him on until the last 15 minutes, it might have resulted in too much playing time, so we'd substitute him again. These are normal situations during pre-season, and we can adjust based on different circumstances."
