Al-Hilal have confirmed Karim Benzema has left the club after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract.

Benzema only joined Al-Hilal in February from Saudi Pro League rivals Al-Ittihad, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists in 16 appearances.

The 38-year-old won the King's Cup with Al-Hilal, recording an assist in the final against Al-Kholood, while they finished second in the league.

Benzema also scored a penalty in Al-Hilal's Pro League opener this season, but he will now be replaced by Ollie Watkins, who joined from Aston Villa on Sunday.

Al-Hilal released a statement which read: "Al-Hilal Club Company and French player Karim Benzema have mutually agreed to terminate their contractual relationship, bringing his time with Al-Hilal's first football team to an end.

"Al-Hilal Club Company expressed its appreciation for Benzema’s contributions during his time with the team, as well as the professionalism, commitment, and leadership he demonstrated both on and off the pitch.

"The club extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to Karim Benzema for his time in the Al-Hilal shirt and wishes him every success in the next chapter of his career."

Benzema's next step is unclear; while some suggest retirement could be on the cards, the former Real Madrid forward has reportedly received an offer from an MLS club.
