According to Transfermarkt data, the 20 La Liga teams collectively spent approximately €755.28 million on new signings this summer. Among them, the three major clubs—Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atlético Madrid—invested €532 million, accounting for over 70% of the league's total spending.

More striking still, Real Madrid alone invested €225 million this summer, a figure that exceeds the combined spending of the remaining 17 teams outside the "big three."

Real Madrid Leads the Way

Real Madrid was La Liga's top spender this summer with €225 million invested.

Ivorian forward Diomandé was undoubtedly the marquee signing. Real Madrid acquired him from RB Leipzig for approximately €125 million, making him the most expensive signing in the club's history.

Additionally, Real Madrid spent €55 million to sign Marc Cucurella, €25 million for Carlos Espi, and €20 million for Denzel Dumfries.

Bernardo Silva and Konaté joined on free transfers.

Real Madrid's spending alone accounted for nearly 30% of La Liga's total transfer expenditure this summer.

Barcelona and Atlético Madrid Follow Suit

Barcelona also made significant investments this summer, spending a total of €184 million.

The club's largest outlay was €80 million to sign Anthony Gordon, with another €60 million spent to acquire Rodri.

Karim Adeyemi, Gabriel Jesus, Jesse Bisiwu, Livaković, and Hamza Abdulkarim also joined Barcelona this summer.

Atlético Madrid invested €123 million to strengthen its squad.

Key signings included Morten Hjulmand for €40 million, Lee Kang-in for €35 million, Cristian Romero for €33 million, and Alejandro Grimaldo for approximately €15 million.

Combined, the three clubs invested €532 million, accounting for over 70% of La Liga's total transfer spending.

Fourth Place Spent Only €30 Million

After the "big three," other La Liga clubs' spending dropped significantly.

Real Betis, ranked fourth, invested only €30.5 million this summer—a stark contrast to Real Madrid's €225 million.

Deportivo La Coruña ranked fifth with €26 million, Elche spent €23.25 million for sixth place, and Racing Santander invested €20.5 million for seventh place.

Other clubs included Getafe with €19.5 million, Villarreal €16.5 million, Sevilla €15.5 million, Deportivo Alavés €13 million, Celta de Vigo €11.8 million, and Rayo Vallecano €10.28 million.

Only a handful of clubs can genuinely spend heavily in the transfer market.

Seven Clubs Invested Less Than €10 Million

Mid-to-lower-table La Liga clubs' transfer spending is even more constrained.

Valencia spent €9 million this summer, Real Sociedad €8.5 million, Osasuna €8 million, Espanyol €5.55 million, and Levante €5.1 million.

Málaga invested only €300,000, while Athletic Club did not spend anything on transfer fees.

Excluding Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atlético Madrid, the remaining 17 La Liga clubs collectively invested only €223.28 million.

This reality means most La Liga clubs must rely heavily on free transfers, loans, academy products, and other low-cost recruitment methods to strengthen their squads.
