Manchester United right-back Dalot recently spoke with DAZN about United's new season start, his decision to leave Porto years ago, and Portugal's performance at the 2026 World Cup.

In the new Premier League season, Dalot came off the bench in the opening match against Hull City, then started consecutively in matches against Ipswich and Everton. United's shock 2-0 loss to Hull City at the start of the season was disappointing, and Dalot acknowledged the poor start: "We laid strong foundations last season, and everyone had high expectations for this new campaign. Recalling his decision to leave parent club Porto to join United for €22 million, Dalot firmly stated it was the right decision. He suffered an injury shortly after arriving at United and once questioned his choice. Nearly nine years have passed in a flash, and looking back, he is very emotional: "This experience has strengthened my mentality. Being away from home and playing in the most competitive league in the world, countless difficult moments have brought me emotional and professional maturity, helping me face setbacks more calmly." During this period, he also had a loan spell at AC Milan.

Regarding the Portugal national team, Portugal was eliminated from the 2026 World Cup in the Round of 16 with a 1-0 defeat to Spain, when Merino scored the decisive goal in the final minutes. Dalot said that Portuguese football is increasingly recognized worldwide, and the team has many talented players, but individual ability doesn't translate to team results.

"In recent years, we've proven we can compete with any team in the world. However, at major tournaments like the World Cup and European Championship, individual talent alone isn't enough. We need to find the missing piece and turn individual talent into a strong team. I believe that in future major tournaments, Portugal can once again make the nation proud."
