Despite regretting the derby loss, former Chelsea winger Cole expressed optimism about Alonso's team's early season form and praised Morgan Rogers, admitting he had previously underestimated the player. However, Cole is concerned that Chelsea failed to find a replacement for Enzo Fernández on transfer deadline day, leaving a gap in the team's midfield.

"Chelsea are exciting to watch right now. I went to Stamford Bridge to watch the match against Brighton, and the front three of Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer, and João Félix were full of energy, which was really promising," Cole said on the video program.

"Moisés Caicedo's injury has had a negative impact. Roméo Lavia is a good player, but he seems unable to stay healthy for extended periods."

"Whether it's Reece James, Malo Gusto, or whoever fills in at midfield, they don't reach the level of Enzo Fernández and Caicedo. I think Arsenal had a slight edge in midfield, which helped them gradually control the game, but Chelsea still has a lot to be proud of."

Cole Palmer's performance last season was frustrating, even leading to his exclusion from Tuchel's World Cup squad. Cole is now pleased to see the English star enjoying football again.

The three-time Premier League winner was also impressed with Rogers' early performances in a Chelsea shirt.

"Palmer has transformed this summer; his ball control is now incredibly smooth," Cole added.

"Morgan Rogers is an absolute beast; I underestimated him before. I knew he was a top player, but you see his first touch—it's clean and instantly elevates the game's rhythm."

"From Chelsea's perspective, this summer's transfer window has been very good overall, and the squad looks more settled. Alonso will continue to improve, and we have many excellent players.

"But there's a hidden issue: I think there's still a gap in midfield that must be addressed.

"However, one thing I highly approve of is that the team didn't panic after failing to sign their top target, Monaco's Lamine Camara, and didn't just buy anyone to fill the void.

"To sign a player of that caliber would cost £40–50 million, and Chelsea cannot afford another transfer mistake.

"I can accept a tight midfield for the next two or three months; I'd rather have a temporary shortage than rush to sign someone unsuitable."

Speaking about new signing Maxence Lacroix, Cole continued: "I think this signing is very successful.

"It's been a long time since we had a summer window like this. Lacroix is a very good centre-back and genuinely strengthens our defence."

Wesley Fofana played poorly against Arsenal, leading many fans to call for the French defender to be rested for the next Premier League match against in-form Hull City.

Regarding Fofana's inconsistent performance, Cole said: "Fofana's struggles stem from a lack of consistent playing time.

"Dealing with an injury that requires ongoing management makes playing exceptionally difficult. Ledley King's situation was typical in that regard.

"Towards the end of my career, with significant physical wear and tear, I could only manage two training sessions a week at most. Players like Fofana and Ledley King are greatly affected when injuries strike early. Players must rely on training to maintain their competitive fitness."
