Former Internazionale player Stéphane Dalmat, who maintains close ties with the Nerazzurri, discussed Andy Diouf's progress and Internazionale's performance in the Champions League and Serie A this season under coach Cristian Chivu in an exclusive interview with Tribuna.com.

Let's start with your compatriot Diouf. Zinedine Zidane has included him in the preliminary squad for the Nations League. What do you think? Does he deserve it?

"I am very happy. I have always believed in him; I watched him play many times at Lens and liked him from the start. Although I don't know him personally, last year I sent him a private message on social media telling him not to give up and that with hard work he could achieve great things at Internazionale. He replied to me, repeatedly thanking me."

Do you like his new position as a winger?

"Yes, to be honest, I didn't expect him to play in this position, but he proved he could. He's very fast, enjoys one-on-one situations, and has more space to display his abilities."

You spoke highly of Diouf when he joined last year. Are you surprised by his progress now?

"I have always been convinced that with confidence and dedication, his talent would flourish and be fully displayed. He can do even better and must continue to work hard and remain humble."

Let's talk about Internazionale and the start of this season. What do you think of Chivu's team?

"I like them a lot! I watched their recent matches against Real Madrid and Napoli, and they played very well. I'm optimistic."

The match against Real Madrid was intense. Did you like the team's attitude?

"I really enjoyed watching that game. Of course, they lost because of an incredible mistake at this level, especially against an opponent like Real Madrid. But they proved they are on the same level as Real Madrid. Internazionale created many chances, and Real Madrid also benefited from having an excellent goalkeeper like Courtois. I am very confident about the future."

Can Internazionale win the Champions League?

"They definitely have what it takes to go all the way, but there are also very strong teams like Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona who are favorites. However, Internazionale can play an important role because they have the quality. They have a chance to compete for the title."

In the league, is Roma Internazionale's main rival?

"You could say that, but I also wouldn't forget Juventus, AC Milan, and Napoli. In any case, Internazionale and Roma are the two strongest teams after this season's start. In the long run, there might still be surprises, but I still think Internazionale is the strongest."
