Djordje Petrovic's error gifted Kevin Schade an equaliser as Brentford held Bournemouth to a 2-2 draw in a Premier League thriller at the Vitality Stadium. 

 

Saturday's contest was a roller-coaster for each team, with Schade netting twice for the visitors, while Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier were on target for Marco Rose's team, who remain without a win this term.

Igor Thiago headed wide inside two minutes and Keane Lewis-Potter sliced a right-footed off target, while Antonio Silva wasted a great chance at the other end.

Brentford got their breakthrough in the 34th minute as Schade headed in, with Petrovic making a mess of his attempted save.

Bournemouth were level just four minutes later, though, with Kluivert finding the bottom-right corner.

Alex Scott blazed over from a great position early in the second half, but Bournemouth were ahead when Evanilson took in a long ball, held the play up and found Tavernier, who duly finished.

However, a blunder from Petrovic saw Brentford restore parity. The goalkeeper played it directly to Schade, who lifted a cute strike into a gaping net.

Caoimhin Kelleher made a string of smart stops to keep Bournemouth at bay, with the woodwork coming to Brentford's rescue from Ben Gannon-Doak's deflected effort in stoppage time.

Bournemouth will now prepare for their European debut as they travel to Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday before hosting Liverpool three days later. 

Schade and Tavernier strut their stuff

In what was a captivating contest, it was Schade and Tavernier who stood out for their respective clubs.

Schade was a menace throughout. He followed up his goal by thinking he had won a penalty in first-half stoppage time, but a quick VAR review deemed Adrien Truffert had not committed a foul.

The German has a fine record against Bournemouth. Schade scored his fourth and fifth Premier League goals against the Cherries, his most against any side; in fact, two of the four times he has scored multiple times in a game in the competition have been against the Cherries.

Schade has now scored in Brentford’s last three Premier League away games, just the second time a player has scored in three successive away games for the club in the competition after Schade himself in January/February 2025.

Tavernier, meanwhile, registered four shots with three on target, highlighted by an xG of 0.18.

He netted his 21st goal in the Premier League for Bournemouth, making him just the sixth player to score more than 20 in the competition for the Cherries, after Joshua King, Callum Wilson, Antoine Semenyo, Dominic Solanke, and Justin Kluivert.

However, this result means Bournemouth have failed to win in their last six games in the league, with Rose perhaps left wondering where his first victory will come from.
