The Saudi Football Association and the Saudi Professional League jointly condemned Al-Taawoun fans for deliberately chanting Jota's name during a match against Al-Hilal, aimed at provoking Al-Hilal player Neves. The organizations issued a joint statement condemning this behavior.

The Saudi Football Association and the Saudi Professional League stated that the conduct of some fans during Saturday's Saudi League match between Al-Taawoun and Al-Hilal was unacceptable and inconsistent with the values of Saudi football and the principles of sportsmanship.

Both organizations emphasized that provoking players by exploiting personal tragedies will not be tolerated, and stated that the incident will be handled by the relevant authorities in accordance with disciplinary regulations.

Al-Hilal had previously filed a formal complaint with the Saudi Football Association. Al-Taawoun officials also condemned the behavior of some fans and stated that they would cooperate with the authorities responsible for investigating the matter.

During the match, as Al-Hilal players warmed up before kickoff, home fans repeatedly chanted "Jota! Jota!". Neves sarcastically responded with applause and pointed to the sky.

Jota died in a car accident last July at the age of 28. He was Neves's best friend and was a teammate of both Neves and Ronaldo on the Portuguese national team.

Ronaldo previously responded to the incident on social media, demanding severe punishment for the fans involved. The Al-Nassr forward stated that those responsible should be permanently banned from stadiums.
