According to Cadena SER, journalist Ramon Besa stated on a program that if they cannot sign Atletico Madrid forward Alvarez, Barcelona may not sign any other forwards.

The Spanish Football Federation has launched a disciplinary investigation into Barcelona's alleged irregular contact with Alvarez. Alvarez's contract with Atletico Madrid runs until 2030, and the Spanish Football Federation has informed both clubs of the matter. Besa believes that Alvarez is the sole target for Barcelona's coach and board: "Alvarez is the coach's request, and the management agrees. If this transfer cannot be realized, Barcelona may not sign any forward because other options are inferior."
In addition, Besa pointed out that even if Alvarez ultimately stays, Atletico Madrid will still face difficulties: "If Alvarez doesn't want to stay, Atletico Madrid will also be in trouble. The information I received is that he does not want to return to the Premier League, and he and his family have no intention of returning to England, which will also be difficult for Atletico Madrid to handle."
