According to the Liverpool Echo, Wirtz revealed that he has discussed playing in a more central role this season with Andoni Iraola. Wirtz featured in several attacking positions in his debut season with Liverpool, having joined last summer from Bayer Leverkusen for £116 million.

The 23-year-old subsequently played on the left flank throughout Germany's World Cup campaign, with the team eliminated after a penalty shootout loss to Paraguay in the round of 16. However, during Liverpool's US tour, Iraola indicated that he believes Wirtz will next play in a "position behind the striker."
When asked about this role, Wirtz said, "Of course. I've always been more of a number 10, but I'll play wherever the coach puts me. We've also discussed this. Let's see what happens this season."
Wirtz also praised Iraola's training methods so far. He joined his teammates in Chicago after returning from his post-World Cup break.
He said, "I can only say that training has been really fun, and I've enjoyed every session so far. We play a lot of small-sided games and possession drills, which is exactly what I like. I've enjoyed it immensely so far."
Speaking about his holiday, the midfielder told the club's official website: "I feel really good and am happy to see all my teammates again, and also meet the new coach and his staff. Yes, it feels really good.
"I think this short break was important to allow the body to relax a bit. But maybe it wasn't enough, maybe I could have used a few more weeks!
"But that's how it is for professional players. I'm happy to be playing again, because it's what I love most. All in all, I'm happy to be back."
Wirtz's first season was not ideal, as Liverpool failed to maintain the momentum from Slot's debut season after winning the title.
He scored 7 goals and provided 10 assists in 49 appearances, with the team ultimately finishing 5th in the Premier League.
Reflecting on last season, Wirtz said: "Yes, of course, I'm not at all happy with the whole season. I don't come to training every day unhappy, but I feel we could have done more last season.
"I think this season we're starting from scratch. This training camp is also a new beginning. We still have a lot of areas where we need to do better, and I'm very much looking forward to the second season."
