According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are considering João Palhinha as an option to bolster their midfield following the departures of Guimarães and Tonali.

Negotiations between Newcastle United and Marseille midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg are ongoing, with a deal worth approximately £13 million expected to accelerate in the next 48 hours.

The Daily Mail Sport understands that the 31-year-old has expressed his willingness to move. New manager Matthias Jaissle also views the Dane as a potential organizer for the young midfield.

However, this deal still needs to progress, and Newcastle United have already lined up alternatives, including Palhinha. Aston Villa are also interested in the 31-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder, who is set to return to the Premier League this summer after a loan spell at Tottenham last season.

Newcastle United greatly admire the Portuguese international, who fits the profile of an experienced player the team wants to add. The club hopes he can complement new signings such as 18-year-old Shaun Sterry and 20-year-old Alagie Bamba.

Sporting director Ross Wilson is currently prioritizing the signing of a midfielder and a new full-back. Further reinforcements will depend on Jaissle's assessment of the squad's needs.

If Beşiktaş meet Newcastle United's asking price, midfielder Joe Willock will depart, and sources believe this deal is highly likely to be completed. Goalkeeper Nick Pope has also been told he can leave, and although no offers have arrived yet, Ipswich and Celtic are monitoring his situation.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United expect Lewis Miley to be fit for the season opener against Liverpool, though the match comes too soon for Valentino Livramento.

The English defender is currently in the US, continuing his recovery from the calf injury that ruled him out of the Copa América. He is expected to return for the second weekend of the season against Tottenham.
