According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Chelsea has reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign defender Ahanor for £40 million.

The two clubs have finalized the deal, with a transfer fee of £40 million, approximately €46 million, and personal terms have also been agreed upon for a long-term contract.

The 18-year-old player has been granted permission to undergo a medical examination and complete his transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Ahanor came through Genoa's youth academy, making 6 appearances for Genoa's first team before joining Atalanta in the summer of 2024.

In his first season at Atalanta, Ahanor quickly became an important member of the first team, despite still being a teenager.

Ahanor made 35 appearances across all competitions, including 9 in the Champions League. He started 15 of Atalanta's 36 Serie A matches, with the team ultimately finishing seventh.

Ahanor made his Italy national team debut this summer, coming on as a substitute in a friendly against Luxembourg in June. He also started in Italy's 1-0 friendly win over Greece that same month, playing at right-back.

If the transfer is completed, Ahanor will become the second player to join Chelsea from Atalanta this summer, after Matteo Pessina, who completed a similar transfer in July.

In addition to Pessina, Chelsea has also strengthened its defence this summer by signing Lacroix from Crystal Palace and Chávez from Rayo Vallecano.
