Messi posted on social media announcing his retirement from the Argentina national team.

Messi made his debut for the Argentina senior team on 17 August 2005 at the age of 18 years and 54 days. Since then, he has made 207 appearances for Argentina, scoring 125 goals and providing 68 assists.

He has participated in a total of six FIFA World Cups – in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026 – as well as the Copa América tournaments in 2007, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2021 and 2024, leading the team to one FIFA World Cup title and two Copa América titles.
