According to Sport1.de, Newcastle's sporting director Ross Wilson was recently interviewed about the team's summer transfer window operations.

Newcastle sold Gordon this summer. According to Wilson, this was necessary to free up financial space for further acquisitions. Another attacking player, Isak, also departed the team, while Tonali also left.

Gordon's transfer brought Newcastle approximately 81 million euros, with add-ons potentially increasing this to 88 million euros. Wilson stated, "We had to complete a deal like Gordon's in this transfer window, or it could have been another player, but it had to be a deal of similar scale." Only after this deal was confirmed could the club's financial plans be finalized.

Isak's departure paved the way for another signing

Isak departed for a transfer fee of approximately 75 million euros. Wilson revealed that this deal enabled Newcastle to sign Fernández-Pardo for around 60 million euros: "The final deal for Fernández-Pardo was only possible because we completed the Isak deal."

Through this series of operations, Newcastle addressed the UEFA "squad cost rule" constraints. This rule sets limits on club spending on salaries and transfers. Newcastle had previously been fined approximately 6 million euros by UEFA for violating this regulation.

CFO Simon Capper stated that Newcastle is currently compliant, but with little financial buffer: "All our projections are within compliance, and even with some minor missteps, we will still remain compliant."
