Manchester United legend Andy Cole believes finishing the season in the top six would be a good result for the club, and he is confident that Rashford will be a key player for the team, according to Tribal Football.

In an exclusive interview with Tribal Football via Unibet Casino, Cole discussed how United is adapting to Michael Carrick's management in the early stages of the season and expressed his delight at seeing Rashford back in the starting lineup.

Rashford is clearly back in the starting XI. Are you pleased to see him back and fighting for a starting spot?

Cole said: "I'm very, very pleased. Someone asked me about Rashford a few weeks ago. I said that I think he will have a great season for United, especially after coming back.

"I wouldn't even say he has a lot to prove, because the only person he really needs to prove anything to is himself.

"Regardless of what anyone else says about his situation at United or anything else, all he needs to do is prove it to himself and believe in himself. I think he's started the season with confidence, and if he continues in this form, he will be a key player for United this season."

Do you think United should sign a new left-back, or is Luke Shaw still a good first-choice option?

Cole said: "Luke Shaw is probably one of England's finest left-backs, especially when he's at his best.

"If you take away the injuries Luke has suffered, particularly that very serious one, people would regard him as one of the greatest left-backs in English football history.

"Critics will always have something to say about players, about what they should or shouldn't do. That's football. The older I get, the more I understand that people will always have something to say about others.

"But the absurd thing is that many people judge what Luke has and hasn't achieved, yet we can't judge them because, ultimately, we don't know how well or poorly they're doing their jobs. That's how I see these things."

Do you think the United dressing room should be concerned about only picking up 4 points from 3 games?

Cole said: "It's only the start of the season, so you can't complain about the points at any particular stage. Very few teams are in peak form right now. You just have to do your best. If you look at the Everton match last weekend, we were really unlucky not to win that one.

"We lost our opening game of the season, but then we comfortably beat Ipswich. Nobody wants to lose your first game.

"I heard Michael Carrick's comments yesterday. United aren't in a bad position, are they? It's only been 3 games. Of course, you'd want 6 or 9 points, but that's not how it's gone. So you can only work with what you have. You currently have 4 points, and the season is very long, very long."

United hasn't won the Premier League title in over a decade since Sir Alex Ferguson departed, so they're not considered title contenders alongside Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City.

Do you think United can compete for the title this season, or is the goal just to finish in the top four?

Cole said: "My goal and Michael Carrick's goal and the team's goal might be completely different.

"I said at the start of the season that if United finish in the top six, that would be a very good season. Now some people are questioning me, saying, 'Oh, this is United, how can you only say top six?' But do you know that the top six is positions 1 through 6?

"That means you could finish 1st or 2nd, or 5th or 6th. The final outcome depends on how many points you earn and how many games you win. That's how you get into the top six.

"So I still maintain that United will finish in the top six this season. How others see it is up to them. But top six is top six, positions 1 through 6, and United will be there.

"The more games you win, the higher you finish on the table. It's that simple."
