The official Premier League social media stated that Sergej Yakirovich led Hull City to a dream start upon their return to the Premier League, earning him the Barclays Manager of the Month award for August.

In the two Premier League matches in August, Yakirovich led Hull City to a 2-0 victory over Manchester United at home, followed by a 1-0 away win against fellow promoted side Coventry City.
