West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez has issued a statement denying any involvement in an alleged kidnapping plot.

Following reports in Mexico linking him to charges allegedly orchestrated by his former partner's father, the 28-year-old midfielder angrily rejected the allegations on social media, stating that the matter "has nothing to do with me." Alvarez has dismissed these claims and revealed that he has instructed his legal team to take appropriate action.

He wrote: "In light of recent reports and comments circulating, I feel compelled to respond to this matter clearly and firmly. I categorically deny any allegations or attempts to link my name to events, disputes, or actions that have absolutely nothing to do with me.

"Over recent months, my name and image have been continuously used to generate media attention for a matter in which I have absolutely no involvement. Until now, I have chosen not to respond. But there are limits to everything, and attributing knowledge, responsibility, or involvement in such matters to me without any clear evidence has crossed that line. If anyone believes they have evidence of any wrongdoing on my part, they can submit it to the authorities, prosecutors, and courts. Serious allegations must be backed by evidence and submitted to the competent authorities, not through media outlets that prioritize sensationalism and exposure over accuracy and truth.

"I will not allow my name to be used to incite conflict between third parties or to serve purposes of media exposure. Given the gravity of these allegations, I have instructed my legal team to evaluate and pursue appropriate legal action against anyone spreading false allegations against me. I also want to respond clearly to reports attempting to link me to this matter through my former partner's father: I am not at liberty to confirm, deny, or comment on what may have been said to third parties, but I have a responsibility to make one thing clear: I have absolutely no connection to the reported events.

"Throughout my nearly 10-year career, I have consistently worked to stay away from media scandals and have been known for my work both on and off the pitch. I come from a hardworking and honest family who taught me that reputation is built over years of effort, discipline, and character. For this reason, I will not allow my name to be irresponsibly used in connection with matters that have absolutely nothing to do with me.

"My priorities have always been, and will continue to be: my daughter, my family, and my career."
