On Sept 13th, the Ecuadorian Football Federation officially announced that 50-year-old Argentine coach Marcelo Gallardo will take over the Ecuadorian national team.

The Ecuadorian Football Federation wrote on social media: "We have talent, structure, and ambition, and we are ready. Let people believe, because they have reasons to believe. Welcome, Marcelo!"
Marcelo Gallardo has previously coached Nacional of Uruguay, River Plate, and Al-Ittihad. This will be his first time coaching a national team. During his time at River Plate, Gallardo led the team to win the Copa Libertadores twice, one league title, and three Copa Argentina titles, and was named South American Coach of the Year three times.
At the 2024 Copa América in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Ecuador was eliminated in the round of 16, after which coach Beccacece resigned.
