Lens officially announced the termination of their cooperation with Toppmöller by mutual consent, marking Ligue 1's first managerial departure of the season. So far, among the top five leagues, Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga, and Ligue 1 have all seen their first head coaches depart, with the Premier League being the sole exception.

The first to be sacked was Fiorentina coach Raffaele Grosso. Despite the club's significant investment in new players for their centennial season, the team suffered three consecutive defeats at the start of the league campaign. On September 6, Grosso departed his position.

The Bundesliga followed suit. Borussia Mönchengladbach coach Gerhard Poeppelman led the team to three consecutive defeats in their opening matches, conceding 12 goals while scoring just 3 in three games—the club's worst Bundesliga start on record. He ultimately could not survive the poor run.

In La Liga, Valencia coach Carlos Corberán also departed following a dismal start. The team managed only 1 draw and 4 losses in their first 5 matches, scoring a single goal while conceding 10—Valencia's worst start in La Liga history.

Now, a similar situation has unfolded in Ligue 1.

The 45-year-old Toppmöller took over at Lens just this summer and had even guided the team to a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the French Super Cup. However, after Ligue 1 began, Lens managed only 1 win, 1 draw, and 2 losses in their first 4 matches, currently sitting 10th. Ultimately, both parties agreed to end their cooperation by mutual consent.

In less than a month, four of the top five leagues have already sacked their first managers. The Premier League remains the only league without a managerial casualty.
