Premier League clubs are becoming increasingly concerned that some of their players will be unable to get back into the UK for when the season resumes, according to reports.

A number of top-flight players fled the UK when the country was placed into lockdown so they could be with their families and loved ones in their homeland.

Chelsea ace Willian was one of those to flea, with the winger gaining permission on compassionate grounds from the Blues to head back to Brazil.

But, according to The Mirror, clubs are now concerned their players will be unable to get back to training on time, given the travel restrictions in place across the globe.

It is claimed there are 'many more' players who did the same as Willian and could struggle to get back into the UK.

Premier League clubs are hopeful of a return to training on May 18 with the season starting again behind closed doors on June 8.

Flights into the UK are still being permitted, if they are for essential travel, but stars may not be able to fly out of their own country because some have barred flights completely.

It comes after UEFA confirmed on Thursday that if top European leagues are unable to finish their current campaigns then next season's European places will be chosen on 'sporting merit'.

This method would likely mean a table decided on points-per-game ratio, which would secure a Champions League spot next season for the Premier League's current top four of Liverpool, Manchester City, Leicester and Chelsea.

It would see Manchester United and Sheffield United take the Europa League places, while Arsenal and Tottenham would miss out on European football entirely if the current Premier League season is unable to be completed.
