On June 18th, after the first round of matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage concluded, FIFA's official website released its Power Rankings. Messi currently ranks first, Mbappé third, and Kane fifth.

2. Haaland (Norway)
3. Mbappé (France)

FIFA explained that for the 2026 FIFA World Cup™, it has introduced a new individual player ranking system based on match data. The Power Rankings provide objective, data-driven insights into player performance.
All outfield players receive scores from 0–10 in three categories: attack, creativity, and defense. Goalkeepers are scored on distribution and shot-stopping. After each match, a "Power Ranking" list is generated featuring the top 100 players in each category, updated following every match. The rankings measure individual player performance both in specific matches and throughout the tournament.
In individual categories, Messi leads in attacking with a score of 8.12; Iranian player Rezaei tops creativity at 8.23; and Canadian player Cornelius leads defense at 7.28.
