Croatia secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Panama in Toronto. Croatian media outlet Sportklub reported that FIFA's decision to award Man of the Match to a Panama player has sparked considerable controversy.

Despite Croatia claiming all three points, FIFA awarded the Man of the Match honor to a player from the losing side.
The recipient was not Budimir, who scored the winning goal, nor Stanisic, who provided the assist, nor Modric, who marked his 200th international appearance, nor Baturina, who worked tirelessly throughout the match. Instead, the award went to Panamanian midfielder Cristian Martinez.
The choice has drawn criticism, with Martinez's performance appearing unremarkable for a Man of the Match winner.
Statistics paint a poor picture: Martinez completed only 24 of 34 passes, created no scoring chances, and touched the ball just twice in Croatia's penalty area. His crossing was ineffective, with all seven attempts failing to reach a teammate.
