According to Fox News in the United States, FIFA denied rumors that President Infantino had sought help from the Trump administration.

The New York Post previously reported that Infantino had turned to the Trump administration for help in retaining his presidency.

However, Fox News reported that sources within FIFA stated that Infantino had no scheduled contact with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio or any other member of the Trump administration this Monday or at any other time.

The source also said that The New York Post's account of the meeting was not true.

The New York Post stated on Monday that Infantino was scheduled to meet privately with Rubio, against the backdrop of increasing external pressure on him after his plan to sell off some of FIFA's commercial operations to private investors failed.

The newspaper also wrote that the talks were ostensibly to discuss how football could be used as a "soft power" tool for the United States, but one source described the conversation as Infantino seeking support for his position.

The source told the newspaper: "He wants to engage with the Secretary of State to talk about how football can be soft power for the United States, but we all know it's about holding onto his job. There's no other purpose right now."

The report also stated that since the controversial proposal failed last Friday, Infantino has repeatedly tried to contact Trump and hopes to win over some influential allies who publicly support him.

FIFA sources explicitly denied any scheduled contact with Rubio or other Trump administration officials; as for The New York Post's other claim that Infantino tried to contact Trump, FIFA has not yet officially responded on behalf of the organization.
