Sancho will struggle to find a club willing to pay him £50,000 a week, and he might even retire within two years. talkSPORT Breakfast host Gabby Agbonlahor said he is worried about the winger's current situation.

On talkSPORT, Geoff Sterling questioned whether Sancho would gradually fade out of football if there was no transfer news.

Agbonlahor responded: “I’m worried about Sancho, Geoff, I’m really worried about him because, obviously, it didn’t work out for him at Manchester United.

"He played well at Dortmund, but it didn't work out at Chelsea. Last year, when he came to Aston Villa, everyone thought the coach, Unai Emery, could work miracles.

"But he couldn't revive Sancho. Sancho only played two decent halves at Aston Villa.

"He can't beat players," Agbonlahor continued, "not fast enough, and the final pass and shot aren't good enough. He's 26, but he's a free agent.

"There's always a rule in football, Geoff. If you're in the last year of your contract, you'd better have a good season.

"Otherwise, no matter who you are, your next move won't be at the level you expect. Especially Sancho, he hasn't had a good run for several seasons now.

"He was still under contract last season, but he played so badly at Aston Villa. I'm not surprised why no one is after him."

According to talkSPORT Bet's odds at the time, Sancho was most likely to sign with a Qatari team before September 1.

Agbonlahor believes that the Englishman's salary demands will still be an obstacle, which will also prevent top Championship teams from signing him.

He added: "The contract expectations are the same. Manchester United gave him a five-year contract, probably £250,000 a week, I'm just guessing.

"I don't think there's a club now that would be willing to give him £50,000 a week. What would he think? After all, he's used to big contracts.

"Would he have that thought, 'I'm not going to the Championship'?

"Which club in Europe would really give him the treatment he thinks he deserves?"

Worries about retirement

When Sancho moved to Manchester United for £73 million in 2021, he was one of Europe's most sought-after young players.

He contributed 17 goals and 16 assists for Dortmund in the 2019-20 season, but only scored 12 goals in 83 appearances during his five years at Manchester United.

Sterling questioned whether a lack of explosive speed had slowed down the once-promising player, and Agbonlahor said: "He doesn't score enough, does he?

"Look at the wingers now, at the Premier League level, you need at least 10 goals and 10 assists.

"I just think he's not as good as he used to be. Some players decline, don't they?

"Many players play well at 18, 19, but at 26... there's always a reason. Sancho just hasn't performed.

"I'm really worried about him now. Will he retire at 28? I wouldn't be surprised at all."
