This role initially seemed to belong to Bellingham, but the Englishman faced competition from Güler, who performed well in Real Madrid's preseason. Mourinho played Güler as a central midfielder before moving him into an attacking midfield position, where he also delivered a brilliant performance.

The Turkish player was one of the standout performers in Real Madrid's preseason and made the most of Bellingham's absence from training after the Club World Cup. As it stands, Güler has a better chance than Bellingham of starting Real Madrid's opening league match against Espanyol on August 22nd. What happens next remains to be seen, but it is clear that Bellingham must work harder to reach Güler's current form.
