Greg Vanney insists the LA Galaxy's hunt for a place in the MLS Cup Playoffs is "not over", ahead of Wednesday's visit to the Vancouver Whitecaps. 

Following a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution on Saturday, sealed via first-half goals from Marco Reus and Robert Taylor, the Galaxy are 12th in the Western Conference.

They are just a single point adrift of the wild-card spots, though each of the teams from fourth to ninth have a game in hand over Vanney's side.

With 10 games still to play, though, he believes his team have every chance of gatecrashing the postseason, saying: "It's not over. I think it's really tight in the West – you've just got to get on a little bit of a run. 

"Because these players have experience, have a high level of game awareness, nuance and different things, I feel like that gives you the best chance to try to get this thing rolling as quickly as possible. 

"I think these guys will quickly find that rhythm with one another. So again, we're in the process of still getting guys totally match fit with Chucky [Hirving Lozano], and so there's a combination of things. 

"But our team is deeper now. We've got more guys that can come in and have an impact. That's one of the big things in this league that can help carry you from match to match."

The Whitecaps' place in the playoffs is all but certain as they sit top of the Western Conference, three points clear of the second-placed Houston Dynamo with a game in hand.

Their form has been indifferent since the World Cup break, though, and they were beaten 3-1 by St. Louis City last time out. 

Head coach Jesper Sorensen feels the quick turnaround might help his players rediscover their groove, however.

"We have a tough schedule, and it is what it is," he said. "We have a strong squad, but we also have a couple of new players who have not really been in the mix yet.

"It's always tough when you don't win games, but it's nice when you have another game coming up. We are a strong side, and we think we can handle a very tough schedule."

PLAYERS TO WATCH 

Vancouver Whitecaps – Emmanuel Sabbi

Sabbi put Vancouver in front against St. Louis last time out, scoring his fourth goal in 17 MLS appearances this season – three of which have been the opening goal in a game.

He only managed one touch in the St. Louis area in that game, however, so the Whitecaps will look to provide him with more service on Wednesday.

LA Galaxy – Marco Reus 

Reus scored the opening goal and assisted the other in the Galaxy's 2–1 win over New England. 

The former Germany international has been involved in 30 goals for the Galaxy (11 goals, 19 assists), more than any of his team-mates since he made his MLS debut in August 2024.

MATCH PREDICTION – VANCOUVER WHITECAPS WIN

The LA Galaxy have lost only one of their last five meetings with the Whitecaps (W3 D1), including going unbeaten in the last two (W1 D1). 

They last went three straight meetings with Vancouver without losing between March 2018 and April 2019 (W2 D1).

And Vancouver's form has tailed off recently. After opening the season with eight wins in their first nine matches, the Whitecaps have won just five of their last 13 (D4 L4) in regular-season play.

The Whitecaps have not lost consecutive league matches since defeats to the Galaxy and Colorado in July 2025, though, and the Opta supercomputer makes them favourites.

The Galaxy's win over New England was their ninth in all competitions in 2026, but they are yet to put together back-to-back victories in all competitions this year, having recorded four draws and four losses in the matches immediately following their wins this season.
