Vinicius signed a new contract with Real Madrid this summer after being linked with the Premier League champions throughout the transfer window, though a move ultimately never materialized.

With only 12 months remaining on his original contract, reports of Vinicius wanting to move to North London continued to surface, a push allegedly driven by his agent.

Real Madrid had no intention of selling the Brazilian star, and Mourinho quickly secured a new deal, ending the speculation and resolving mounting tensions between Vinicius and the club.

In an interview, Petit stated that Arsenal had dodged a bullet by not signing Vinicius, believing the player would have caused problems in the dressing room.

"I think Vinicius is a very talented player, but mentally, I'm not sure he fits Arsenal's profile. That's just my opinion.

"I see very humble players at Arsenal, so if you suddenly bring in someone completely different, it could become an issue, especially given Arteta's management style.

"Look at what happened between Vinicius and Mourinho in the recent match between Real Betis and Real Madrid. It reminded me of Xabi Alonso's experience last season when he refused to shake his hand.

"Vinicius will always face criticism from fans, the media, and social media, but at that moment, he sent the wrong signal. I think from that incident, Arsenal may have dodged a bullet by not signing him.

"Of course, I would love to see a player like Vinicius play for Arsenal, but with his mentality and ego, I think it would be a very difficult situation to manage."

Vinicius subsequently signed a new six-year contract that will run until June 2032, officially ending Arsenal's hopes of acquiring him. Arsenal also missed out on Barcola, who joined Liverpool.
