Gian Piero Gasperini is confident Roma will be able to "measure up against the best" when they face Inter next time out after maintaining their perfect start to Serie A.

Roma ran out 2-0 winners against Torino on Monday to make it four wins from four in the Italian top-flight, with Donyell Malen and Niccolo Pisilli getting the goals.

They are one of two teams still with a 100% record in the competition, with next weekend's opponents, Inter, also winning all four games so far.

Roma will head into that clash as the table toppers – due to a superior goal difference – and Gasperini is excited to see just where his team's level is at.

"We have a few days to prepare. There was a big gap between the teams last season, especially when we got hammered in the return meeting, but that was where the real Roma was born, with an escalation after that in terms of results, attitude and mentality," Gasperini told DAZN Italia.

"Clearly, Inter are the reference point for this league, a strong team indicated by everyone as the best in Italy, even if I think Como are getting close.

"It is an opportunity for us to measure up against the best and show we can do better than in recent performances."

Malen is the third player in Roma's history to score more than five goals (six) in their opening four matches of a Serie A season after Pedro Manfredini (seven in 1960-61) and Francesco Totti (six in 2001-02).

Paulo Dybala also played a key role, with his throughball leading to Malen's goal, which he scored on the rebound after his first attempt was saved, with Gasperini heaping praise on the pair.

"It is wonderful for the fans and anyone who loves football seeing champions like Malen and Dybala working together, creating situations out of nowhere in practically every game," Gasperini said.

"Clearly, these are two players who are very talented individually, but they also complete each other as a pair. They combine beautifully to create goals in many games."

Gasperini did take Malen off early in the second half, which raised some eyebrows, but the Roma boss is determined to keep everyone in his squad fresh and involved.

"We need to get everyone in this squad stepping up a level; it was our third game in eight days, and you can't have players with 90 minutes that regularly," he added.

"If we manage to give them 20-30 minutes off, it can make a difference in the long run. We also need to get those in the wake of champions like Dybala and Malen to step up, ready to be protagonists. If we manage to do that, the whole team becomes stronger."
