AFC Fylde prepare to become the first non-league team to use VAR in the FA Cup

AFC Fylde will become the first non-league team to use VAR, with the fifth tier side set to play Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in the FA Cup third-round.

The FA have confirmed that all 13 of the third-round clashes this month hosted by Premier League stadiums will use the system.

Fylde are 21st in the National League and enjoying their longest ever run in the competition, earning the right to play their top-flight opponents by beating seventh-tier side Kingstonian 2-0.

After the announcement, the club tweeted: 'It's been confirmed that VAR will be in use at Sheffield United on Sunday - making AFC Fylde the first non-league team to ever use the system.

'Let's keep those armpits tucked in lads.'

The jibe relates to recent narrow offside calls in the Premier League, with armpits and heels causing goals to be ruled-out and fans to criticise VAR.

It was Roberto Firmino who sparked the gags, after his goal against Aston Villa was disallowed because his armpit was inches ahead of the last defender.

Wolves skipper Conor Coady hit-out at the video referees as 'not good enough' and 'confusing' after his side's defeat to Liverpool, where a Virgil van Dijk hand-ball was let slide.

If a Premier League captain finds it hard to understand, Fylde don't have much chance.
