It’s been a few months since Andrés Guardado announced his retirement, after 20 years playing at the top level.

The former PSV and Real Betis star however has every intention to stay within the game and is now plotting a career path in the world of coaching.

Guardado to return to Spain

It was the former Mexican captain’s wife, Sandra de la Vega, who broke the news via social media on what Andrés’ next step would be; while he no longer wanted to remain a player, he also didn’t see leaving football entirely as an option.

“We were waiting a bit for Cruz Azul, then he really liked the whole Miami thing, because of life there, we started looking for a house, a school… but one night the idea of studying to become a coach came up. His dream is to continue in soccer" (...)

“In Spain, there’s a school in Madrid where people who have played certain official matches with their national team can study there. He wants to study there because it’s where the best players come from, so he decided to come here to get the certificate and see what doors open for him,” she said.

Guardado will now undergo the series of courses in Spain in a bid to attain the required badges that will help him make the transition from a player to overseeing matters on the bench.
