According to Argentine media outlet Olé, Atletico Madrid is preparing to bid for Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur, with the defender reportedly prioritizing a move to the Spanish club.

Romero has once again caught the attention of a major suitor. Atletico Madrid is preparing a fresh offer for the Tottenham center-back, and this time they have a potentially decisive advantage: despite strong interest from Internazionale, Romero is said to prefer joining Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid's interest in him is long-standing. Simeone listed the defender as one of his priority targets in the last transfer window, but negotiations stalled after Tottenham demanded approximately €55 million just to begin talks.

Now, that desire has resurfaced. According to Marca, Atletico Madrid is preparing an initial offer around €30 million in an attempt to reopen negotiations with Tottenham and secure this signing that Simeone has never abandoned.

Atletico Madrid also has another potentially decisive factor working in their favor: Romero's willingness to move. The center-back extended his contract until 2029, but reportedly included a clause allowing a future move to a Spanish giant.

When Romero signed his current deal with Tottenham, his valuation had already exceeded €70 million. However, according to reports at the time, the new contract included a special provision: if the buyer was Atletico Madrid, the price would be €60 million.

This condition was not exclusive to Atletico Madrid but also applied to Barcelona and Real Madrid. Barcelona has consistently kept the Argentine defender on their radar, and Real Madrid had previously expressed interest. However, circumstances have changed, and these figures may no longer dictate current negotiations.

Internazionale is currently the most serious contender. According to Italian sources, Inter has tabled an offer of €35 million in fixed fees plus €5 million in performance bonuses, exceeding Atletico's initial bid.

Barcelona remains interested in Romero but is currently taking a backseat. The club has multiple center-back options available, and whether they make a concrete move for the Argentine will depend on whether changes occur in that position first.
