As the J-League enters the cross-year system era, the new season officially kicks off. Romeu, the new foreign player joining J1 Avispa Fukuoka, has become one of the most anticipated signings.

It is reported that Romeu's decision to join Japanese football was also influenced by Yoshida. Yoshida discussed his friend on his radio show "Yoshida's Treasure in Talk."

"Romeu was my teammate at Southampton; we played together for about five years. Even after he transferred, he was still one of the players I communicated with most frequently."

"We had a really good relationship. Our lockers were probably next to each other back then, and we lived very close by, so we often had barbecues together."

Yoshida revealed that Romeu has always had a strong interest in Japan, even starting to wear Mizuno brand shoes because of Yoshida's influence.

"He has always been interested in Japan. He said he wanted to wear Mizuno shoes and cleats, so he later signed with Mizuno. I also took him to eat Japanese food and introduced him to my trainer, and he still receives treatment from that trainer. He has fully embraced Japan (laughs)."

Regarding Romeu's move to Avispa Fukuoka, Yoshida stated that he was also involved in recommending him.

"Coincidentally, at that time, an acquaintance of mine started managing Avispa Fukuoka. He asked me if I knew any influential foreign players, and I immediately replied: Romeu!"

Yoshida humorously commented on Romeu's playing style: "After all, he is one of the players with the most yellow cards in Southampton's Premier League history (laughs). Japan will welcome a very tough 'destroyer' (laughs). However, he is also a player who can maintain balance, so I don't think there will be any issues."

Yoshida then reviewed Romeu's professional career: "He came out of La Masia, joined Chelsea, but suffered a serious knee injury there. After that, he went to several places in Germany, and after joining Southampton, his injuries decreased, and he was able to perform more consistently."

"His experience is top-notch, and his tackling ability is also top-notch. After all, he was once a Barcelona player, so his ball-handling skills go without saying. He is a very excellent player."
