La Liga Matchday 1: Sevilla 2-1 Rayo Vallecano. After the match, Rayo Vallecano forward Álvaro García expressed dissatisfaction with referee Burgos's decisions.

Rayo Vallecano began the new season with a controversial defeat at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán. Although Álvaro García opened the scoring for his team, Sevilla came from behind with two penalties (and had one penalty overturned), sparking widespread debate after the match.

Referee De Burgos also disallowed a goal by visiting player Palazón and sent off home player Kike Salas with a red card.

Álvaro García said: "There were three penalties, and the game was very tight. The person who shouldn't have been the protagonist got too much screen time. I didn't clearly see Lejeune's penalty. My penalty was clear; it happened seconds before Augusto touched the ball. He didn't blow anything for Randy (Nteka), but he didn't hesitate to award the first penalty."

Sevilla completed the comeback in the second half. Álvaro García said: "They put us under pressure, the penalties gave them momentum, and it was like a bucket of cold water for us. Palazón's disallowed goal wasn't reviewed by VAR, and I think if it had been the other way around (Sevilla's goal disallowed), they would definitely have reviewed it."

On the other hand, Sevilla coach Luis García was also asked about the referee's decisions, but his statement was quite controversial. He said: "There were three penalties, and they canceled one of ours. I have to go back and watch. I am the Sevilla coach, and I think all three were penalties. I think the first one was; I haven't seen the third one yet."
