According to L'Équipe, Patrick Vieira is expected to become head coach of the Senegal national team, but several details between the two parties remain unresolved, and the official contract has not yet been signed.

Although Vieira is poised to become the head coach of the Senegal national team, key details have yet to be finalized. Ten days have passed since the two parties announced an agreement, but nothing has been officially confirmed.
With the international break approaching, time is running short. When the Senegalese Football Federation made its announcement, it seemed definitive: Patrick Vieira had reached an agreement with the federation to become the new coach of the Teranga Lions. However, one detail in the announcement stood out: the two parties were still in negotiations. That was on August 18. A press conference was even scheduled to officially introduce the former French international and Dakar native, but negotiations then unexpectedly stalled.
Ten days later, little progress has been made because Vieira has still not signed the contract. This partnership seemed like a natural fit for both sides, so what went wrong? The period following the World Cup has been marked by serious political instability in Senegal, and the situation remains complex. Decisions continue to be made very slowly.
Even with only a few weeks remaining before the national team’s next matches, there appears to be little sense of urgency. Vieira needs to assemble his squad, communicate with the players and familiarize himself with the new environment as quickly as possible. While outsiders may assume he has already begun analyzing the pool of international players, nothing has truly materialized yet. He must also establish his coaching staff and address logistical matters: Who will join him, and on what terms? Without concrete guarantees, he will not hastily commit to such an important role.
Despite the delayed signing, the partnership has not been abandoned. For now, there is no indication that the deal has fallen through. This aligns with the typical approach of the Senegalese Football Federation, which similarly delayed Aliou Cissé's contract renewal from the end of the Africa Cup of Nations until just before Senegal's third World Cup group match. Fortunately, Vieira should not have to wait that long. Nevertheless, the appointment has stalled.
Previously, the federation faced potential complications from an impending election, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport rejected that request at the end of August, removing the obstacle. After controversially managing Senegal’s recent World Cup campaign and dealing with issues including poor organizational management and frequent commitments to matches in the United States, the federation continues to move slowly despite its public statements. Still, both Vieira and the federation remain committed to a partnership; it is simply not yet official, and time continues to slip away.
