In their first home game of the new Premier League season, Liverpool drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest. After the match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot spoke to TNT Sports about the performance.

Arne, today you only managed another draw. How do you assess the team's performance?

Obviously, this isn't the result we wanted. I think the first and second halves were completely different. We played very poorly in the first half. Even with that poor performance, we were a bit unlucky with their goal—it was slightly offside. Our goal was also a little bit offside. You weren't on the right side of things, but I think our first-half performance was really very poor.

In the second half, we clearly played much better. The intensity was completely different. If you're going to lose, at least it should be like the second half. Our intensity was much higher, and we were more threatening. I'm satisfied with the second-half performance, but we wanted to win the game, so everything happened too late.

Has the team improved compared to last week's performance?

I think it was a different performance. In the first half, their goal came from our poor defending. They scored from two long throw-in attacks. Overall, I felt the first half was terrible. It definitely wasn't good enough. We improved in the second half. When it became 1-1, the momentum was with us. You'd think maybe, like what happened against Newcastle, we'd concede again and everything would become difficult. We still had a few minutes after it became 2-2, but we couldn't complete the comeback.

What's your opinion on their penalty? It seemed you wanted to make a triple substitution before the incident occurred.

I won't analyze that penalty, but yes, it shouldn't happen. A professional fourth official shouldn't take—I don't know—three minutes. We submitted the substitution request two or three minutes earlier. I was already frustrated that the substitutions couldn't be made during the previous stoppage. Before the throw-in, I said we'd make the substitutions then, but I don't know. They have to explain it, but it certainly took a long time to prepare the substitution boards.

Since Viktor Gyökeres joined, he has been a real highlight for Liverpool. How satisfied are you with him?

I think he played very well today. He worked hard throughout the entire game and performed quite strongly, scoring a goal and showing threat both offensively and defensively. He was also very solid defensively, which is one of the positives from today.

Cody Gakpo created a goal. Does his future at Liverpool depend on whether you bring in more players for the wide positions?

As we said before the match, the transfer window still has two or three days left, and we'll see what happens. Honestly, I'm looking forward to September 2nd so our final squad can be confirmed. But it's true that both of our goals came from the right wing, and they were both very good goals.
