According to Football.London, Arsenal CEO Richard Garlick stated that summer signings need to be rational and players need to be happy.

Arsenal CEO Richard Garlick insists the club worked to conduct transfer business "rationally" before the summer window closed.

The Gunners ultimately welcomed five new signings to the Emirates: Tsolis, Meslier, Hincapié (loan made permanent), Konsa, and Guimarães all joined. Arteta also offloaded eight first-team players, with Hein, Kiwior, Nørgaard, Trossard, Nelson, Fabio Vieira, Gabriel Jesus, and Nwaneri all departing, with Nwaneri joining Borussia Dortmund on loan. Martinelli could also leave to join Al-Hilal, but this transfer has not yet been confirmed.

However, Arsenal could have done more in the transfer market. Edu had hoped to further strengthen the attack and had targeted big-money signings like Vinícius, but the Real Madrid player ultimately remained with the Spanish giants.

They also considered Malick Fofana but were unwilling to meet Lens' asking price for the Belgian winger; Juventus' Yıldız was also favored, but it later became clear that the Italian side had no intention of letting the 21-year-old leave this window. Julián Álvarez was also an option, and Arteta even spoke with the player, but the Argentine international was set on joining Barcelona, only to be blocked by Atlético Madrid. In recent days, the North London club also received recommendations for players such as Frankfurt's Bah, but they didn't pursue any of them seriously.

Instead, Arsenal seems set to reassess the situation in January. If they still want to strengthen the squad in the winter window, the club will have financial backing then, even though the mid-season market is always difficult to navigate.

This still disappointed some fans, many of whom had expected the club to sign a world-class striker to help the team continue its pursuit of the Premier League title and Champions League. Club CEO Richard Garlick is involved in the entire process of buying and selling players, though co-chairman Josh Kroenke and sporting director Edu are more at the forefront of negotiations.

Now that the transfer window has closed, Garlick explained what constitutes a good negotiation and discussed the process the club goes through before signing a player. He told the Men in Blazers channel: "I think you need to go into negotiations with clear objectives, you need to focus on the outcome you want to achieve, but also be principled and strive to adhere to the principles that the club and our football management team follow.

"We try to do things rationally, but you also want to get things done. People often say that in a good negotiation, everyone ends up a little unhappy, because that's where they meet in the middle. Ultimately, we want a player to join at the end of the deal, and for him to be very, very happy.

"Perhaps his agent isn't too happy, or perhaps we're a little unhappy with the agent. But in the end, we want the player to be happy."

The words "principles," "rational," and "happy players" are telling. Perhaps in the final weeks of the summer window, timing wasn't on Arsenal's side, so the Gunners didn't force deals through like in previous years. Sterling's loan move from Chelsea is a good example.

The Premier League champions will next wait until January, or even next summer, to consider further strengthening the squad. Garlick, Edu, Arteta, and the Kroenke family are clearly already discussing their next set of targets.
