Laurie Whitwell outlined the squad's perspective on not signing a striker and left-back this summer:
"From what I've heard from the players I've spoken to, everyone is focused on the striker position. The players believe Sesko needs a rotation partner; they want a primary striker so that Mbeumo and Cunha can move to positions where they feel more comfortable.
As I understand it, the left-back issue isn't particularly urgent in the players' minds because everyone has confidence in Luke Shaw. And Shaw has been at the club for so many years that his teammates are very supportive of him."
