Atalanta coach Maurizio Sarri stated in his pre-match press conference ahead of Roma that De Ketelaere is currently performing at only 70% of his potential.
Sarri said: "Unfortunately, due to the World Cup and his injuries, he's had very little time to train with us. But I believe De Ketelaere is a truly top-class player with considerable room for growth—he's currently performing at only 70% of his potential. Charles still needs to become more consistent and decisive. He hasn't had much time to play, but what he's shown so far is quite good given his immense talent."
Regarding defensive progress, Sarri said: "I've seen improvement in training, but there are still areas that need work in matches. Individual players are performing well, but overall, I don't think our defense is good enough yet."
