According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Man United internally discussed Nicolas Tagliafico as a transfer target but ultimately decided not to pursue him.

Journalist Romano stated: "Man United previously discussed a transfer target internally. For those who regularly follow my channel, you may recall that I previously mentioned a left-back similar to Reguilón among Man United's transfer targets. Everyone remembers that when Man United signed Reguilón from Tottenham, he performed quite well. This was an experienced option—not a top prospect like Balde, but an experienced player with solid ability who could contribute for the remainder of the season. That player was Nicolas Tagliafico. Tagliafico was under consideration by Man United at that time. Juventus and Atlético Madrid also attempted to sign him on deadline day, but the move did not materialize due to timing. Tagliafico was indeed one of Man United's considered targets. However, Man United ultimately decided not to pursue the deal—this was Man United's own decision. But there was indeed contact and discussions within the club about Tagliafico, after which they chose to move forward with their existing squad. They have Luke Shaw in this position, as well as the young prospect Harry Amass. What is certain is that Man United decided to continue the season with their current squad."
