According to Sport1, Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß stated that captain Undav remains an important part of the team for the Champions League campaign.
Ahead of Stuttgart's first Champions League match against Norwegian champions Viking FK, Hoeneß strongly defended Undav, who has had an inconsistent start to the season. He said: "Undav is crucial to our ability to play in the Champions League, and everyone must be clear about that."
Undav did not perform spectacularly in Stuttgart's first two league matches against Bayern Munich and Cologne. Hoeneß stated: "The external criticism is a bit exaggerated; his performances weren't that bad." He added: "He may not be in top form, but he hasn't been playing poorly, nor has he lost every ball."
The 44-year-old coach emphasized that Undav "is always valuable, even if he occasionally doesn't have his best performance in a match." Hoeneß said: "He is a very good person, our captain, understands the game very well, reads the game well, and provides great inspiration to me as a coach."
Hoeneß also stated that despite previous mentions of Achilles tendon discomfort, Undav "has absolutely no problems in training." Regarding Stuttgart's Champions League ambitions, Hoeneß said: "We understand international competition. We have a good team and, of course, hope to make a strong impression."
