According to Belgian media HLN, Courtois has decided not to represent Belgium in the upcoming UEFA Nations League. After speaking with national team coach Mark Van Bommel, the goalkeeper emphasized that he will be available for the qualifiers.

Courtois had already hinted during the World Cup that he was considering withdrawing from the UEFA Nations League. The packed schedule was the main reason. After speaking with Van Bommel, the 34-year-old goalkeeper finally made this decision.

"I have decided not to represent the Red Devils in the entire Nations League competition," Courtois told HLN after Real Madrid's Champions League match against Inter Milan (2-1) on Tuesday evening.

Courtois said: "The national team coach understands my choice. I will continue to represent the national team in the European Championship qualifiers and understand that I have to fight for my place like other goalkeepers."

Courtois will not participate in the matches against Italy, France, and Turkey in September, October, and November. He is not expected to return to the Belgian national team until March 2027 at the earliest, for the first Euro qualifier.

In Tuesday's match against Inter Milan, Courtois once again demonstrated why he is considered one of the world's best goalkeepers. He also performed well at the World Cup, although his tournament ended in disappointment. In the quarter-finals against eventual champions Spain, he was substituted due to a minor injury.
