Manchester United icon Darren Fletcher was cheered by supporters after putting an abusive fan in his place following the win over Sabah FK in the Champions League on Thursday night. Michael Carrick's side made light work of the Azerbaijan outfit, running out 4-0 winners on home soil.

Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes, Benjamin Sesko, and Lisandro Martinez were all on the scoresheet to kick start United's Champions League campaign. However, not everyone was happy after the game.

One fan was reportedly being abusive towards the players as they made their way home after the game, and Fletcher wasted no time in putting the fan in their place.

In footage shared on social media, the former United midfielder can be heard saying: "Hey, listen, it doesn't matter, you can't speak like that," before pointing at the fan.

Fletcher is cheered by the United fans in attendance before the former interim head coach says: "You're the reason people don't sign."

The United fans in the vicinity cheered once more before chanting 'Fletcher, Fletcher, Fletcher' as the coach made his way back to his car.

United boss, Carrick, was pleased with his side's display against Sabah, and when asked if he felt the result was a perfect return to the Champions League, he said: "Yeah, I think so. Kind of what we set out to achieve, really.

"I think it was a good performance, individually, collectively, pretty much all the way through the game, from start to finish.

"Boys that started, boys that came on the pitch, clean sheet, some goals and some good, exciting football. It was a good night all round."

However, there were causes for concern for the United boss, with captain Bruno Fernandes appearing to limp as he made his way home from Old Trafford.

The Portuguese midfielder was caught on camera departing the stadium alongside United staff, moving gingerly as he acknowledged supporters before making his way home.

Fernandes played the full 90 minutes in the Champions League clash, appearing fine throughout, suggesting any concern is likely to be minor. United will hope that's the case with a match against arch-rivals Man City on Sunday afternoon.
